AUDITIONS - The Fantasticks

Mariemont Players is pleased to announce audition dates for their March/April 2011 production of the musical The Fantasticks. Director Rosco Mlinek, Producer Art Kibby, and Musical Director John Nixon have set auditions for:

Sunday, December 12, at 2pm
Monday, December 13, at 7pm
Callbacks Wednesday, December 15, at 7pm

Auditions will be held at Walton Creek Theater at 4101 Walton Creek Road, Cincinnati, OH 45227.

You may prepare a SHORT song (around 32 bars). A pianist will be provided. Head shots and monologues are NOT required.

The Fantasticks is a fable of love and life that has moved audiences around the world for over fifty years. Musical highlights include Soon It's Gonna Rain, Plant a Radish, They Were You, and the classic, Try to Remember.

There are eight parts:

The Mute - The play's magic flows from the delicate hands of this ethereal sprite. An expressive face and grace of movement is essential. Dance and or gymnastic experience helpful. Stage age 12-20 Female. Non-singing role.
The Narrator (El Gallo) - Exuding dashingly good looks and a wisp of mischief, he struts the stage manipulating the action. Stage age 40-55.
The Boy - The epitome of youthful bravado. Stage age 19.
The Girl - Her eyes glow with the wonder and possibilities of life. Stage age 16.
The Girl's Father - A buttonmaker. As cautious and precise with his money as he is with his daughter. Stage age 45-65.
The Boy's Father - A gregarious and emotional man who is as likely to shake your hand as punch you in the nose. Stage age 45-65.
The Old Actor - A life on the stage has etched deep lines into his/her face. Constantly and endearingly befuddled. The character speaks with a Shakespearean accent. Stage age 65 - Up. Singing not essential.
The Person Who Dies - Grizzled and earthy, she/he speaks with a cockney accent. Stage age 30 - Up. Singing not essential.

The production will be staged March 18 - April 2, 2011.
